We recently visited Wickford Pupil Referal Unit for a practical completion inspection and were pleased to see how the site has come together.
We picked up this project at stage 3 and had some work to do on rationalising and detailing the feasibility design. In the redesign we managed to reduce hardstanding in the car park by 750 square metres, enabling us to offer a greater soft play area for the pupils. As part of the sustainable drainage design two swales were also integrated into the scheme.
During the project we worked closely with the ecologist following the discovery of a badger sett on site and bats within the redundant building. We were able to retain the badger sett on site and the ecologist worked with the contractor to protect the bats during demolition.
