Winnocks Almshouse Project wins Patron’s Award!

We were thrilled to hear that the £1.4m Winnocks almshouse project received the coveted Patron’s Award of the Almshouse Association. The award was established in 2000 by HRH King Charles as the Patron of the Almshouse Charity, recognising and encouraging outstanding almshouse developments.

Nine new almshouses were built on the Winnocks site in Colchester adjacent to an original Grade I listed almshouse terrace.

Working closely with heritage specialists, Purcell Architects, we provided a landscape scheme for this heavily constrained site. We always relish the challenge of designing within the curtilage of recognised heritage assets. Our sympathetic design centred on accessible connections between the Grade I listed buildings and the new dwellings, softened by an associated planting scheme.
