Wynne-Williams Associates welcomes Writtle students

In October we welcomed a group of landscape and garden design degree students from Writtle University College, Chelmsford, to the offices of Wynne-Williams Associates. We have a close relationship with the College and we appreciate these opportunities to meet new landscape designers and to contribute to their course. (A quick look at our People page will show that most of our team have either trained or lectured at the College and Gill Wynne-Williams chairs the College’s Landscape Institute Accreditation Committee.)
Dr Jill Raggett, Reader in Gardens and Designed Landscapes, organised the visit and said:

“Opportunities to meet and visit professionals like this puts the topics we have been exploring in class into an active working scenario and helps students to understand how important and challenging this career can be. Connections like this allow professionals to help and advise us in writing new courses and to achieve Landscape Institute Accreditation, of which we are extremely proud.”

Gill Wynne-Williams, Lucy Nicholls and Tom Johnson showed projects we are involved with to present the different aspects of our work and the range of people we work with and to show the importance of communicating landscape architectural concepts to different audiences. Our aim is to bring the course alive by showing how the students’ coursework relates to practical landscape design projects.
Keyong Min, one of the students on the visit said,

“It was exciting and inspiring to see the variety of design work that was taking place on such a range of scales and with a variety of clients.”

We look forward to meeting more students in the future and to seeing their work at the College’s End of Year Show, which is always a great display of the talent of the students and the quality of the teaching on offer.

See the Writtle University College website for more information about their landscape courses, and for a beautiful resource on plants see Dr Jill Raggett’s Plant of the Day on Tumblr.
