Planning Approval Granted for Two New Essex Schools
Planning approval has recently been granted for two new through schools for pupils with special educational needs in Essex. Sir Geoff Hurst School and Hawthorns Free School will be constructed on part of the former St Peter’s School site in Chelmsford. Wynne-Williams are members of a team assembled by contractor Net Zero Buildings to design and construct the two schools.
Facilities will include hard and soft play areas with each school having a multi-use games area, items of play equipment, horticulture areas, habitat spaces and outdoor teaching provision.
The schools will also include separate residential blocks to allow some of the pupils to spend time away from their home environment and start to live more independent lives.
Net Zero Buildings are a contractor who specialise Modern Methods of Construction so the buildings will be prefabricated off site to allow for rapid and accurate construction on site with minimal waste.
Members of the design team include Haverstock Architects, Clancy Consulting on engineering and Real8 planning consultants. This has been a great design team to work with and we have already started working with them on the next school project in south Essex.
