WWA Switches to Vectorworks
As the demand for BIM compliant projects increases, Wynne-Williams Associates have taken the decision to switch to Vectorworks software. This will give us the capability to design collaboratively with other professionals to BIM Level 2.
After consultation with a range of software suppliers, it was decided that Vectorworks Landmark provides the flexibility required for landscape within BIM projects and was therefore the best choice for WWA. To ensure a smooth transition towards the new software, team members attended a series of training days designed to provide a strong foundation in Vectorworks and BIM working practices. BIM Manager, Matt Bird, believes that “embracing a wholistic approach to BIM will not only improve our workflow as a practice on smaller projects, it will enable us to work with national contractors on large-scale projects”.
The Government stated that as of April 2016, all public projects must be designed using BIM. This coincided with the Landscape Institute publishing their first guidance book on BIM, ‘BIM for Landscape’. Within the book, the LI asserts that “BIM can enhance collaboration with other professionals and clients, streamline information processes, improve decision-making and deliver well-designed landscape projects that are right first time, on schedule and on budget”. Further information on adopting BIM practices can be found here on the Landscape Institute website.
As a practice, we look forward to expanding our BIM capabilities and are excited to explore its possibilities with clients and colleagues.
