Marlborough Sports Garden

Back to Projects
  • Refurbishment of an existing sports facility
  • Providing extra provision within the original footprint
  • Open for community use

The project to redevelop Marlborough Sports Garden was commissioned by Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST), who manage the site. WWA were appointed to redesign the community facility close to London Bridge, Southwark, and oversee the construction phase onsite.

Upgrades were made to the five-a-side football pitch and beach volleyball courts, with a new traversing wall and netball court added to the space. Surrounding decking and integrated spectator seating were also introduced. In addition, improved floodlighting has extended the usability of the site after dark.

There were various challenging aspects to the project, as World War II tunnels were found underneath the site. This issue was compounded by access being heavily constrained and required an innovative concrete pumping solution.
