Albion Primary School in Rotherhithe is a new build school and nursery built on the existing site. The project contributes to the regeneration of the area with a strong built frontage and a series of landscape spaces which wrap around the new building creating learning and play spaces for the pupils.

The existing site was landscaped with mature trees, so we designed the new school and grounds to retain as many as possible with new tree planting on and off site as compensation for the trees lost.

The school is designed around a courtyard overlooked by the dining space and central hub. The grounds lead out from the courtyard to provide playgrounds, a forest schools area, Multi-use games area and spaces for nursery and early years pupils. On the ground floor there is direct access into the landscape from every classroom.

Outdoor classroom spaces were provided on the first floor and the roof was landscaped to provide a teaching space with exercise area and panoramic views over the London skyline.
