Progress at Mayfield School
It’s always great to visit site and see designs coming to life. We recently visited Mayfield School in Portsmouth, which is the rebuilding of an existing all-through school.
This photo from the roof shows the new large entrance courtyard which will be the heart space for the school, it has direct access to the hall so the school can use it for events and performances. The courtyard will also feature a timeline along the main path showing the history of the school.
Stone quoins from the original Mayfield School building will be used for seating and the site of the existing building will be reinstated as playing fields once demolished.
Design challenges here included existing mature trees which line the boundary, and the location in a residential area with properties very close by. For this reason, the new fencing has been set back from the boundary with a planted buffer in between the existing low railings and the new fence.
We’re looking forward to seeing the scheme completed.
