Big Local green space initiative for Barking and Dagenham
Wynne-Williams Associates have submitted a green space action plan for the North Meets South Big Local scheme for Chadwell Heath and Marks Gate in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
Big Local is a Lottery funded initiative to provide finance and support for 150 community development schemes throughout England, with each scheme receiving at least £1m of lottery funding over the next ten years. We were particularly pleased to be selected by a partnership of local people to support the North Meets South project because they have ownership of the initiatives that will benefit their neighbourhood.
During the summer of 2016 we carried out a survey of all the area’s green spaces and ran a series of public consultations to make a clear plan to satisfy the needs of everyone in the neighbourhood. The last of our public consultation sessions took place in September at a DIY Street Party organised by the cycling charity SUSTRANS to celebrate the community’s work.
Gill Wynne-Williams who led our project team says, “Our report highlights the facilities and quality of the green spaces in the North Meets South area and we’ve brought that together with the views of residents to create an action plan providing a practical starting point for improving the parks and other outdoor spaces. It’s been great to work on this Big Local community-led initiative because these schemes present a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the communities involved, and we’re excited to see how the project develops.”
