  • £1.4 million sports and recreation ground refurbishment
  • Collaborating with Swale Borough Council, The Faversham Municipal Charities and Purcell Architects

The Recreation Ground in Faversham was established in 1860 and has been the focus for sport and recreation in the town ever since. Our project, funded under the HLF ‘Parks for People Programme’, will refurbish the buildings and landscape of the park for the 21st century.

The focus of the restoration will be on the Gardener’s Lodge building, which is the home of Faversham Rugby Club. The scheme will provide an additional refreshment kiosk, to service a new terrace and outdoor performance area. Additionally, the sports pavilion building is being remodelled to provide new changing and community facilities. As part of the works the paths, park boundaries, play areas and planting are all being restored and reworked.

Working with Swale Borough Council, the Faversham Municipal Charities and Purcell Architects, we have designed the scheme to support a 5-year activity plan. As part of the HLF grant bidding process, this included a considerable amount of public consultation.

The restored Recreation Ground will be fully open for use in Spring 2020.
